The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) in collaboration with Praesidium Consultancy Limited, has organized a data privacy awareness training for secondary school pupils of Florida Comprehensive College, FESTAC Town Lagos, on Tuesday, the 31st, to celebrate the 2023 World Privacy Day.
As part of its advocacy role, Praesidium Consultancy Limited, a licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation, was nominated by The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau to adopt Florida Comprehensive College and administer the data privacy awareness training tagged: Catch them Young.
As a side event, the Catch them Young Privacy Class is a youth empowerment programme introduced by the NDPB in this year’s celebration to train secondary school pupils and university students on Data Protection and Privacy.
Addressing newsmen Mrs Roni Akins, the Chief Executive Officer of Praesidium Consultancy Limited, praised the Catch them Young initiative, saying it is a good innovation by the Bureau to give young people a heads up concerning data protection and privacy issues in Nigeria.
“I am happy to identify with this kind of initiative because it helps to breed a class of well-informed young people about data protection and privacy. For this gesture, I highly commend the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau and urge them to continue the good work.”
In a document released by the Bureau about the weeklong celebration, it intimated to the reader that the 28th of January of every year was chosen and celebrated as World Privacy Day to spread awareness and encourage data privacy practices within organizations, communities, schools, and nations.
“The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) hosted the 1st and 2nd editions of the National Privacy week, which saw the participation of over 500 stakeholders from various sectors. Building on the traction achieved under NITDA, the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) was established in February 2022 to take over the full responsibility of implementing the NDPR and advancing data protection and privacy in the country. This has compelled the Bureau to carry on the torch and lead the celebration of National Privacy Week 2023.”
